Official Start
Roger hurried the team to depart for Tableview pics of all the cars lined up with Table Bay
in the background. We had had a very
luxurious start to our adventure, and then we were heading northwards on the
famous N2 highway, where we passed wheat and started climbing the Piekenierskloof
Pass. Ian and Val blew a head gasket of
their Mgb and were delayed for a day while a new gasket was sent from
Johannesburg. The splendid spring flowers of Namaqualand kept our cameras
clicking to Vioolsdrif, on the South African side of the Orange River, where we
spent the evening at a delightful tented
stopover. We enjoyed the pizzas and dawn birdsong.
